I did gather that any art or wordage which had ever been on the internet in any way is widely considered untouchable by the hard-copy 'zine'-publishing crowd, therefore I have largely dismissed any thought of submitting anything to them/you. Not to mention I lack the wherewithall (pronounced 'do-re-mi') to actually purchase the things. And lastly my niche is rather limited. Though many a tree gave its all to the cause, I never could draw Avon. --Penny "Free Filth" Dreadful ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Apr 1999 03:14:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Peter Borg To: blakes7@lysator.liu.se Subject: [B7L] Help Wanted Message-ID: <19990404101453.23881.rocketmail@web601.mail.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Some time ago, I registered the domain name blakes7.org to put up a site which is basically review & editorial set in content. I've had another project on the go for some time, however, which has kept me from this one, but that's now drawing to a close. I need contributors to the site. You don't need to know how to write web-pages, as long as you have a web browser you can chip in. It's very much the case that I'm looking for people who want to put *their* ideas into reality, so you need to bring an idea for the site that you're prepared to work with. Contributors will have full control over their own work, and will be credited on the site along with their work. There'll also be a rouges gallery. Alternatively, if you wish, you can remain completely anonymous. So, if you've an opinion or views on Blake's 7, and you feel like you want to contribute to the site, please contact me. Anyone who has ever produced a fanzine (especially nowadays) knows that you're lucky if you ever break even on the production. The print costs are outrageous. If the art is visible for free somewhere all over the world, it's going to reduce the likelihood that the interested fan will want to shell out money for it in your paper zine. The same goes for fanfic. What you need to do nowadays to motivate someone feel it's worthwhile to buy your zine is to have material that can't be obtained anywhere else. Well perhaps more than anything this is a techno-generation-gap and there's no future in attempting to surmount it -- but I can't see how having access to a 50 dpi jpeg of an illustration is going to deter anyone from purchasing a higher-quality reproduction of same. I'd think it would have the opposite effect, actually -- advertising -- the scent of a bakery lures 'em in to buy bread, not just stand snorting up free smells. But I freely admit I have no experience of the 'zine' genre/culture/medium, and am not criticising its methods, which obviously work. The same goes for fanfic. I just received my first batch of fanzines and I can't tell you how exciting it is to own them. What I was most impressed with was the quality of the zines and the obvious love that went into producing them. I can't explain why, but I get a thrill out of owning them -- even though some of the stories and artwork are available on the net. I hope I'm not in the minority. I'd be very sad if no one produced any new Blake's 7 fanzines. I especially love the Leah Rosenthal cartoons. ;) Cynthia ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Apr 1999 21:47:30 EDT From: Bizarro7@aol.com To: blakes7@lysator.liu.se Subject: [B7L] Art and the Desperate Editor Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit In a message dated 4/4/99 2:14:43 PM Eastern Daylight Time, NetSurfCK@aol.com writes: << I especially love the Leah Rosenthal cartoons. ;) >> Why thanks!
