Chelmsford, Mass., June 11, 1984 -- Apollo Computer Inc., today broadened its
DOMAIN family with three major new products -- including the DN550 color
graphics workstation, new graphics software, and a high-capacity,
Winchester disk -- expanded memory capacity for the low-end DN300 series
workstations and enhanced the firm's software and communications offerings.

The DN550, a powerful, 32 bit color graphics workstation in the $30,000
range can accommodate a broad array of applications such as mechanical
design, integrated circuit design, and logic simulation.  Another model,
the RM550, is a modular version of the DN550 well suited for customers
who have diverse packaging requirements, such as the
Value-Added Supplier (VAS).

"The DN550 significantly reduces
the entry-level of powerful computing and color graphics
capabilities for the technical professional," said Edward J. Zander,
vice-president of marketing.  "Until now, color graphics workstations
with this level of performance were priced from $60,000 to $100,000,
or two to three times that of the DN550."

"We expect the DN550 to 
dramatically broaden the market for engineering and scientific
applications -- most notably in the CAD/CAE marketplace," added Zander.

The new graphics software, called the Graphics Metafile 
Resource, will be a standard feature on DOMAIN workstations and provides an
advanced foundation for applications development.
GMR combines a sophisticated set of graphics capabilities with high graphics
throughput and is designed to accommodate emerging industry standards.
The firm also topped off its
mass storage products with 500 and 1000 megabyte (MB) Winchester disk
configurations which also act as file servers to a DOMAIN network.

Systems software revision SR8 improves the performance of AUX, Apollo's 
version of UNIX* System III 
software, enhances the performance and functionality of Apollo's
graphics firmware, and provides laser printer software
support.  Communications enhancements include VT100 emulation software
and X.25 certification for Telenet in the U.S., Transpac in France,
and Euronet across Europe. Apollo also said it would certify with Tymnet
in the U.S., Datex-P in West Germany, PSS in the U.K., and Datapac in Canada
later this year. In addition, memory capacity for the low-end DN300 and DN320
was expanded from 1.5 to 3MB.
