COMPUTATIONAL NODE SPECIFICATION SHEET DESCRIPTION The APOLLO DOMAIN is a high performance local area network of dedicated computers operating a distributed environment. Computational Nodes are connected together using a convent- ional high bandwidth coaxial cable organized in a ring topology. The network is the mechanism that allows system level hardware and software resources to be shared throughout the DOMAIN system. Each DOMAIN (Distributed Operating Multi-Access Interactive Network) Computational Node, as it is sometimes called, has its own dedicated 32-bit central processor, memory system, high resolution bit-mapped display, winchester dispaly, and network interface. In addition, each node contains a floppy disk, three asynchronous serial I/O ports, virtual memory management hardware and a "soft" (i.e., programmable) key- board with more than 200 user-definable keycode combinations. FEATURES o Dedicated 32 bit VLSI CPU in each DOMAIN Node o Virtual memory management hardware to support a network- wide demand paging environment o High resolution (100 dot/inch) bit map raster display o Separate and autonomous 1.0 megabit dual ported memory for display subsystem o Ring network topology with dual address packet and single token arbitration o Integral baseband network with a 12 megabit per second data rate o Error checking and correcting MOS memory expandable to 3.5 megabytes o Mass storage options - 33, 66, and 300 megabyte disks The above hardware block diagram illustrates the internal organization of a Computational Node.
