Romanowski) Subject: The Hopeless Romantic Date: Wed, 24 Nov 1993 06:03:17 GMT To The Muses Whether on Ida's shady brow Or in the chambers of the East, The chambers of the Sun, that now From ancient melody have ceased; Whether in heaven ye wander fair, Or the green corners of the earth, Or the blue regions of the air Where the melodious winds have birth; Whether on crystal rocks ye rove, Beneath the bosom of the sea, Wandering in many a coral grove; Fair Nine, forsaking Poetry; How have you left the ancient love That bards of old enjoy'd in you! The languid strings do scarcely move, The sound is forced, the notes are few. --BLAKE Why is it that I am labelled a Hopeless Romantic? They meant that I was irreparably impractical and would have to be disassembled, removed from the Dark Satanic Mills to make way for a move efficient cog. To Hell with the so-called Enlightenment, and the Industrial Revolution to boot. It is not sad that we dream of elf-woods, or daring combats, or passionate loves. What is sad is that we dream of elf-woods while living amid asphalt, we dream of combat while swallowing rage, we dream of love while holding ourselves aloof. In the Serpent-Girt Heart of Christ, I beseech ye, not to dishonor your dreams thus. We have been given the inexhaustible language of music, to which is added the mathematical poetry of Pythagoras, the ratios we call Tone. We have been given eyes that envision every color, bodies made in the image of the Most High, Whose Names Nought But Silence Can Express. Is your body yours? Pray, how did you make it, when you stood alone at the dawn of time? And where did you stand to move this proportioned earth? And what was your fulcrum? Who of you can add a single second's breadth to your life's allotted span? X is the Wheel, which we see without, the Dark Satanic Mill, mechanical and aimless. V is the Pope on his Throne of Stone, the Inner Listener. With but these two, we see XV, a grinning goat god gluttonous. Invert this and preceed with L, through Inner Hearing Luminous.
