From: Tyagi@HouseOfKaos.Abyss.com Subject: A.m Tyagi Astrology 2 Date: Sun, 20 Feb 94 09:32:46 PST Q: (About scientific basis for planetary influence upon human events) The 'hypothesis of astrology', as has been remarked upon elsewhere, is most often misunderstood and then maligned BASED ON THIS MISUNDERSTANDING. Alternatively, it is interpreted within a worldview which directly contra- dicts such occult disciplines as astrology and then is called impossible BASED ON THIS LIMITED INTERPRETATION. This is why I choose to focus on the phrase 'As above, so below' when speaking of modern Science in this way. How many 'scientists' have ever both accepted that astrology was based on the IDENTITY of the individual with the cosmos, and not spouted some repudiation based on their lack of faith in such an hypothesis? Most have not understood the first relation (hell, most ASTROLOGERS have not understood the relation in this way!) and few who claim to be scientists have given it the thought it deserves. Such object-oriented studies revolving around 'proof' will never reveal astrology's true value. Note that I am not among the majority in the astrological field when I argue this viewpoint. Astrology can no more be 'tested by modern materialist science' than my taste for chocolate cake can be 'known' by a linguist. Modern science has a warped view of astrology which several 'astrologers' are happy to substantiate. You are debating fortune-telling and influence-theories, perhaps. Even if your criticism lies in the realms of pattern-correlation, this does not say anything about the value of astrology AS A TOOL OF SELF-REFLECTION. This is ALL I am talking about. Please don't think I'm defending anything else here. Subjective sciences (now called 'Magick') derive mostly from Asian and ancient Gnostic philosophies which have only recently been considered worthy of examination by Eurocentric dogmatists.
