The music is not a well-known tune, but a standard anthem-like thing that might get played on holiday Muzak. The words, though.... "Chanticleer" (in the Oxford Book of Carols, 1936, #123 words by W. Austin, 1587-1633) All this night shrill chanticleer Day's proclaiming trumpeter Claps his wings and loudly cries Mortals, mortals, wake and rise! See a wonder Heaven is under From the earth is risen a Sun Shines all night though day be done. Wake, O earth, wake everything! Wake and hear the joy I bring Wake and joy; for all this night Heaven and every twinkling light, All amazing Still stand gazing Angels, powers, and all that be Wake and joy this Sun to see. (The last verse is not as good, and reinforces the metaphor of the Sun as Saviour; it was after all written as a devotional piece.) The tune is bright and like an anthem, and not very difficult to sing. It should be in any Oxford Book of Carols. I got away with feeding it and "Deck the Halls" to my madrigal group. Anyway, that was the best of YuleQuest '93, and I thought I'd share. Now back to that paper....
