This is the last new one I'll be adding for a while. I've got a bit of technical work to do on packaging the current set of episodes, and then I'll be making them available on CD-ROM. This was unexpectedly one of the most frustrating episodes I've worked on yet. The only guess I can make is that the director was imbibing *way* too much caffeine while filming this one. Nobody would hold still! They were constantly milling around, fidgeting, waving their hands; even in close-ups, they'd be swinging their heads from side to side. The camera work was just as hyper, with lots of zooms, quick pans, and sudden cuts just when it looked like someone *might* be still for a frame or two. The composition of shots was often scattered and off-balance as well. I don't know whether the director (whom I see was Brian Lighthill) thought that anyone holding still was boring, or what. Fortunately, the second half of the episode was calmer than the first half, which kept me from going completely berserk. As it is, there are a number of frames which show slight motion blur, especially in people's hands. I did the best I could, but this was a tough one. All that shifting around did make for an unusually large number of frames; there are 230 in the final set. Roy Kinnear had an incredible amount of screen time here. When I finished the captures and looked over the thumbnails of the initial set, his expansive tomato-colored form was absolutely everywhere. I culled a whole passel of images of him, and he's still in a large percentage of the remaining ones. I know he was one of the biggest names among the B7 guest stars; makes me wonder whether Keiller was actually written with him in mind. It's certainly his type of role. Tarrant needs a haircut. Avon needs someone to take his blow-drier away and hide it. If you have to post, post to the protagonists privately and supportively I think. The lists which work best seem to do that (though it's hard to judge what goes on privately on any list of course). For myself, I am always surprised at the depth of feeling that email can invoke in me, even as a third party. I like it, but I'm also rather wary of it. I know I have personally learned a lot over the past five years from participating in email lists, and the three B7 lists have been email gymnasia as far as I am concerned. Or fight clubs I suppose :-) Alison ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2000 15:56:51 +0100 From: Alison Page To: "'blakes7@lysator.liu.se'" Subject: [B7L] my last post Message-ID: <21B0197931E1D211A26E0008C79F6C4AB0C715@BRAMLEY> Content-Type: text/plain Hi all, My last post should have gone to freedom city, where we are - ironically - having a discussion about the problems that arise when someone misposts an email. I have inadvertently provided a living example of the genre. Just thought I'd explain in case you thought you were missing some emails. It is true though - I have learned a lot from reading the email discussion on Lysator, which I think is a very well-mannered list. Ep 3 is a Kaldor City special, and Ep 4 will be more of the usual Alan-bashing; owing to technical difficulties the one about the Lyst will probably be Episode Five.
