You know that scene in Ultraworld where Vila is teaching Orac jokes? He's leaning back on the couch, heaving with laughter, with Orac in the foreground? It will look at the links between Blake's 7 and Babylon 5, including the influences of one on the other. It will mention the Drazi Sunhawk that was based on the Liberator and appeared in Deathwalker and again in numbers in the episode Paragon of Animals that Channel 4 showed this week (talk about sky full of Liberators). It will also mention Christopher Neame, who I think is the only actor to have appeared in both shows. What I want from you lot is any other links, particularly in dialogue. I've heard it mentioned that there are bits of dialogue in B5 that were clearly influenced by B7. Can anyone provide me with examples? But they often had strangers on board Liberator. Cally, Avalon, Sarkoff etc. Some of these were not expected by Zen, but they were still not attacked. Thus, it would seem that if a group was allowed on board, there was a tacit assumption by Zen that its members were not to be attacked. Indeed, it is possible that the defence system was non-discriminatory and could only be set to on or off. Thus, if it was on, it would attack anyone who came on board the ship, including members of the crew. For instance, it was not used against the Amagons. I wonder who activated it in Dawn of the gods? None of the crew were on board at that point, which seems to fit the requirements for its safe use. Perhaps Orac ordered the activation. He certainly knew what was going to happen. I plan to write a story involving this one of these days (it would be my first, so don't hold your breath). My theory is that in DOTG, the defence mechanism is activated when someone attempts to *physically* harm the ship. It had been activated pre-Space Fall by some other agency trying to attack the ship from within, and remained active until someone linked with the ship again, or until Zen turned it off.
