I think it would be better now to improve Regenesis' playability, and we must give it a theme. How about: comics theme? Then we can make monsters that appear in comics and cartoons. Bart Simpson is nice, but how about a Garfield wandering around, or Captain Haddock from Tintin? Tom & Jerry, Speedy Gonzales, Mickey Mouse, Fred Flinstone... So let's first make a sensible mudlib. Btw, the 'say' command is bugged. I don't know who tried to "improve" it (rumours say it was you, Wing :) but it now sucks. ' doesn't work anymore, it now needs a space between ' and say hello, how are you gives Morgan says: how are youhello, (the first word is printed last) Well, any comments on the cartoons theme? How about slashing Tweety with a Ninja-turtle phaser rifle. Sounds good to me! :) Regards Ferry (aka Morgan) (Message inbox:71) Return-Path: groenewo@fwi.uva.nl Received: from mail.fwi.uva.nl by gene.fwi.uva.nl with SMTP (5.65c(FWI)/3.0) id AA01346; Mon Feb 15 17:32:59 1993 Received: by mail.fwi.uva.nl from gene.fwi.uva.nl with SMTP (5.65c(FWI)/3.0) id AA08084; Mon, 15 Feb 1993 16:36:27 +0100 Received: by gene.fwi.uva.nl id AA01182; Mon Feb 15 16:32:59 1993 Message-Id: <199302151532.AA01182@gene.fwi.uva.nl> Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1993 16:32:59 +0100 Return-Path: From: groenewo@fwi.uva.nl (Ferry van het Groenewoud) X-Organisation: Faculty of Mathematics & Computer Science University of Amsterdam Plantage Muidergracht 24 NL-1018 TV Amsterdam The Netherlands X-Phone: +31 20 525 5200 X-Telex: 16460 facwn nl X-Fax: +31 20 525 5101 To: peugh@wam.umd.edu, wing@lysator.liu.se Subject: Re: Cc: cschaffe@flounder.rutgers.edu, dove@well.sf.ca.us, edan@netcom.com, fontenot@comet.rice.edu, graham@cs.montana.edu, groenewo@fwi.uva.nl, hjtoi@jyu.fi, jw@ddsdx2.jhuapl.edu, lyn@matt.ksu.ksu.edu, pulkka@cs.washington.edu, stolk@fwi.uva.nl >* Clients for a broader range of machines. I agree that the protocol needs extensions, but there is a problem coming along with it. If you want clients for many different machines then it won't be a good thing if the protocol is very big and hard to understand. I hacked an amigaclient and that was feasable, but it wouldn't be anymore if the supposed changes are implemented. Same goes for a drawing utility, although I haven't had the time to finish one for the Amiga. You will understand that if the protocol has many changes, old clients won't work anymore, users get frustrated, programmers get crazy. We need a way to expand the protocol in such a way that it is feasable to implement. Also notice that not everyone has a Sparcstation 10 on his desk. Speed becomes an issue when you implement splines and so on. Splines are wonderful things, it would make graphics look so much smoother. But speaking from experience, the Amiga 500 for example can hardly keep up with bsx as it is now. In fact, you could say it CAN'T keep up. You might say that this must be because it is just a hack and I would agree to you but only to a certain extend. But fact is that you would cut out many potential platforms if you make the protocol too big. cu Ferry (aka Morgan)
