From: tims@megatek.com (Tim Scott) Subject: New edition of "The Sacred Magician"--notes Date: Fri, 1 Jul 1994 19:59:20 GMT Some years ago, I picked up "The Sacred Magician" by "Georges Chevalier" [actually a pseudonym for William Bloom] Essentially, he was an Englishman who actually went out and found a remote house, moved there with his wife, and spent six months actually performing the Abramelin work. The book was a daily diary of his experiences in it. I was fascinated by this since it is one of a mere handful of books by people who have personally did occult research and reported on it. He left out some details to preserve his privacy, etc., but in 1992 or so published a new edition of his book with a preface, a reprint of the relevant material from the Abramelim book, commentary on his notes and a little material he left out of the original edition. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in this flavor of magic(k). One thing I found interesting in terms of my own researches: Some of the physical problems he encountered along the way (loud tinnitus, pressure in the head, etc.) are EXACTLY as described by Taoist mystics who describe the lesser/ greater circulation (Charles Luk, Mantak Chia, Yang, Jwing-Ming, etc.) It appears that Bloom was not familiar (maybe still isn't) with that literature and might have been able to save himself a lot of grief if he had known. I'm not sure if this is "in print" but Serpents Occult in Ft Orange FL has some copies, I think. Any discussion is welcome. tim scott tims@megatek.com === From: bheidrick@aol.com (B Heidrick) Date: 2 Jul 1994 00:30:04 -0400 [quoting Tim Scott] Most masochistic occult effort in print for 1976 e.v. Chevalier(Bloom) devoted nearly the entire retirement to striving harder and further in the line of "I am such a rotten sinner" than any other modern Mage. He evidently went through the whole thing and came out with nothing better than a vacation in a hair-shirt. 93 93/93 Bill
