Date: 17 Jul 1994 12:22:05 -0400 When you said "censor" I first though you meant you were having trouble with a middle-sized human being cutting out parts of your Book of Shadows ;-) OK, kiddinng aside -- You're using the charcol correctly, but the powder you've got is either 1) dried out or 2) just plant material with no gum or resin (you didn't say whether you bought it or made it) If the powder is old, get new. A resin or gum base (frankincense, myrrh, dittaney, mastic, dragon's blood, etc.) will make an incense smolder rather than go instantaneously up in a puff of smoke. If you use just powdered herbs they tend to burn quick. Also, use of charcol does take some practice to judge how much powder to use at a time. An alternative, for when using quick burning powder, is to have an assistant keep loading up the censor. Awkward if you're a Solitaire. Good luck, and long-smoldering. >---Broomstick---
