To: alt.fan.kali.astarte.inanna From: dinuroman@aol.com (DinuRoman) Subject: KALI -- Power of Time & Night of Eternity (long!) Date: Kali Yuga 49941128 K A L I The Power of Time (KALA SHAKTI) And The Night of Eternity (MAHA RATRI) The Meaning of Time The Supreme Cosmic Consciousness is the Eternal and Unique Ultimate Reality. At the beginning, It becomes aware of Itself, sustaining the essence of all things and worlds, being unaffected by Time. The Cosmic Creation starts through the expansion of this Timeless Spirit, which manifests everything that was implicitly inside It. This expansion of the Supreme Being, this manifestation of objectivity that originates in the initial subjective state and which is measured by succession, movement and event is called Time (KALA). In the cosmic creation, Time has a triple status, therefore the creatures have the relative experience of Time as past, present and future. This experience is relative because the past is that which was formerly present, the present is that which was formerly future and the future is that which will become present and, as the time passes, past. There is therefore a continuous movement, a sequential rhythm that is a seemingly infinite continuum of apparently distinct parts. The existence of these parts, distinct demarcations in the course of the successive development of everything that exists, is the main characteristic of Time. This characteristic is called death. In Sanskrit, death is KALA, (fragmentation energy), which means also "time." The Necessity of the Continuous Change There is a fundamental necessity of the human nature, an essential aim of embodied life: to look for Infinity starting from a finite basis. This necessity expresses itself in the endless changing of the finite forms (bodies). Through this endless changing of forms, the Individual Spirit accumulates experience. It adds seemingly disparate moments of time into a continuous stream of existence. This experience is its past. The Individual Spirit accumulates knowledge, intelligence, pleasure, happiness, suffering etc., and all these are eternally stored in its superconscious memory. For this process, the continual change of form is absolutely necessary and essential, but for the spirit that is "imprisoned" within the body, the change of forms means dissolution. This is the Law of Death. From this it is clear that death is not a negation of life, but a necessary process of continuing life. The continual change of form is the only immortality that can be attained by the finite living substance. This continual change becomes valuable only if directed by a lucid mind, which is the only element capable of structuring life experiences and extracting the necessary lessons. Without this continual change through death and rebirth, it is impossible to realize the tremendous inner wisdom required for spiritual evolution. KALI, the Power of Time Death, dissolution, lack of freedom, compulsion, fighting, suffering, submission to something that appears to be "Not-I" -- all these are the most frightening, terrible and undesirable things to our ephemeral and limited power of understanding. The feeling of being devoured, humiliated, broken into pieces, destroyed, annihilated is the very pricking of death -- the power that pushes us toward evolution. In the TANTRIC tradition, this Supreme Power of Time (KALA SHAKTI), the totality of the present Moments of Time, which form together the Eternity going back toward the beginningless Past and going forward toward the endless Future, is called KALI. In the TANTRIC vision, the material world in which we live is not an illusion (as it is stated by other spiritual paths) but a magical reality. For the TANTRIC adept, spiritual attainment and total freedom are to be attained here and now i.e., in this material world and during this life. To realize this task, each individual who follows this extremely efficient path has to get a plenary experience, because life is devoured by time and death is the final point of life. The paralyzing and uncontrollable fear of death is the attitude that make us mortal beings. In this respect, no spiritual path will be efficient until the individual has understood the meaning of death and has surpassed, even to a small extent, his illogical fear of it. Death has to be faced permanently with courage. Only in this way can the meaning of time be lived and understood. For this, TANTRA Science points out the frantic worship of KALI -- The Supreme Power of Time, as a way to overcome, among other things, fear of death. This is the first and the most important step in the Science of Self-Knowledge. The Symbolic Image of KALI Death is spying on us continuously through the destructive Power of Time (KALI), lurking in the Darkness like a starving and ferocious beast, devouring the whole Cosmos, having no mercy for anyone who indulges in the dissolving ocean of the ephemeral. This is why the wise TANTRIC adept sees the world (Universe) as an endless cemetery (SMASHANA) in continuous destructive becoming. In this Cosmic Cemetery of the Dead Worlds, the heavenly fascinating Mother KALI is dancing ceaselessly. The cemetery or the cremation ground are the places where the overwhelming Power of Time (KALI) can be easily felt and the telepathic communion with KALI can be extremely strong. KALI's dance symbolizes a continuous, gigantic movement of endlessly flowing time-moments, which follow each other in a simultaneous and infinite sequence. For the Present, KALI is the Merciless Death. Dancing victoriously upon the white corpse of the dead SHIVA (which becomes "SHAVA" - "corpse", symbolizing the Everlasting Male Principle, the Pure Consciousness), She is terribly frightening with Her ferocious fangs and Her disdainful and arrogant grin. The Corpse is what remains when the Cosmos falls helpless under the unique Power of Time (KALI). When this Feminine Power is polarized through the beatific union with SHIVA (The Male Power) She is the beneficent Giver of Life. But when SHIVA is without His Power, He is only a corpse and the destructive Power of Time is the only thing that remains. This is why KALI is symbolically represented dancing upon the dead Universe. She is the Supreme Conqueror who laughs, in Her total triumph, at all those who, in their vanity or ignorance, hope in vain to escape Her. Her three eyes, like dark lotus calyxes, have the questioning glance of the frightened gazelle; they suggest the control over the past, the future and (the third eye) the present. Symbolizing the exalted forces of Sun, Moon and Fire, the three eyes of Mother Kali show Her absolute control over all the Universes. Her tongue is hanging (symbol of cosmic sensuality and also of continuous destruction) and She is completely naked, sensual and entirely shameless. Her nakedness, which both attracts and repels, is a symbol of the impartiality of Time. Her wonderful and swelling breasts with their two dark points are enough to infatuate a saint. They represent the Motherhood of a ceaseless creation. Her body is trim as the shaft of a lance. In her absolute nakedness, radiating with vivid youth, She is free of all covering of Illusion -- Nature stripped of "veils." KALI is completely black -- just as all the colors disappear in black, so all worlds disappear in Her; also, black is the color of AKASHA, the Cosmic Ether, the quintessence of the manifested worlds: this quintessence is KALI. Kali is black because she is the doorway through the voidness of both inner and outer space. Her blackness is made up of all colors and, like the black holes of the Universe, she ultimately absorbs everything that has ever been created. All brightness eventually recedes into blackness, just as all spirituality eventually merges into Kali- consciousness. She wears a necklace of fifty skulls (symbolizing the fifty letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, the repository of knowledge and wisdom). These represent the fifty fundamental frequencies of the Creative Cosmic Emanation, which hold together the phenomenal world. She has four arms (symbol of the four directions of Space, and the complete cycle of Time): the two left hands hold a sword (sometimes a scythe or a sickle, symbol of the energies of the Moon, which carry a powerful destructive energy) and a bleeding newly severed head (the trophy of victory), which symbolizes the destruction (death) of the limited Ego and the obliteration of the normally restricting forces of destiny. In this respect, certain esoteric texts say: "Die and be born again." In ancient times, an Initiate was a person who was born twice. Jesus said: "No one can see the Kingdom of my Father unless he is born again." (John,3,3) The upper right arm is kept in the gesture (MUDRA) of banishing fear (terror). Fear is a Universal Law. Everything that exists in a limited form fears the unknown (i.e., that which is beyond the possibility of attaining and/or perceiving). Only the supreme Power of Time (KALI), which has no limits, is free of fear and can help the practitioner who invokes Her with total devotion, to overcome all fears. In this respect, MAITHUNA -- the TANTRIC sexual love (successive orgasms without ejaculation), being governed by KALI, suspends the human limits and thus opens the door to That Which Has No Limits. The Gifts of KALI The other right arm offers wonderful and magical gifts to those who, through devotional contemplation and telepathic identification (SAMYAMA), succeed in knowing Her intuitively. What are these gifts? Spiritual initiation, protection and guidance, metaphysical knowledge, unknown skills and total efficiency in action, paranormal powers, love, wisdom. All the usual joys of the ordinary human life are incomplete and transitory, being just dim manifestation of the Eternal Cosmic Bliss. These dim joys are short lasting, being quickly smothered by pain and suffering. The true happiness can exist only in that which is permanent. Only the Power of Time (KALI) is permanent, only She can give us totally pure beatitude. KALI gives us the power of controlling time by giving access to the everlasting present, the giver of the perfect and eternal happiness, experienced in a hypercondensed form as The Eternal Essence. This is the traditional symbolic image of KALI. A secret TANTRA describes KALI in the following manner: ". . . very dark of body and with mighty breasts, She rides a lion. She enraptures the world and bears up the earth. She is the primordial force, whose inflorescence is the Universe, whose body is the World." Before the mind's eye of the Initiate who is absorbed in meditation upon Her, this symbol reveals two personalities of The Mother KALI: DAKSHINA KALI (the "left" or "south-facing", the delusive aspect of KALI) and BHADRA KALI (the "true" KALI). The Two Personalities of KALI DAKSHINA represents the skillful action, the adroitness in execution that defeats all obstacles and that is born from a wise intuitive discrimination (clear distinction). It is true that KALI is the Life Power (SHAKTI) of the Universe, the prodigious force of all Gods, but for those who are not yet ready for the spiritual transformation, She leaves behind Her only death and destruction. But this action of destruction is always right, because it is done with a wise purpose that cannot be understood until afterward. This destruction is not a sadistic murder, but an intelligent and skillful success that prepares the background of an accelerated spiritual awakening. The flickering flames of destruction are full of compassion. This aspect of KALI is called DAKSHINA KALI. What is the purpose of this merciless destruction? This hidden purpose is creation that is continuously improving through re-creation, with the aim of becoming right and good because all happiness belongs to the state of perfection. This state of perfection or Supreme Truth is called BHADRA; it is brought through Death and Destruction of that which is not good and perfect. BHADRA KALI is therefore the bright, wonderful and loving KALI. Crisis Leads to Opportunities KALI is the eternal impelling force of evolution, the Transforming Time. Our successive lives are just doors toward Immortality: the terrifying Mother KALI is whipping the mortal human being with the whip of Death, pushing him toward Immortality. In the Cosmic Hierarchy, KALI, the Power of Time (KALA SHAKTI) is the highest and the most abstract manifestation. In a world in which happiness is closely related to attachment, KALI represents a stage of beatitude (ANANDA) that is beyond any egotistical attachment. This is why She is apparently terrifying. For attaining the Supreme Happiness, the human being has to give up through detachment (VAIRAGYA) all that brings incomplete or transitory happiness. At the beginning, this appears as a Dreadful Gloomy night, the sum of all fears and the exact opposite of what all of us want from life. But in and beyond this state of supreme crisis, the biggest opportunity is found: The Pure Immortal Existence. KALI, the Night of Eternity From the point of view of the ephemeral existence, KALI is the destroyer of everything. Her male counterpart is The Time, MAHAKALA or KALA SHIVA, called also RUDRA -- the Master of Tears or The Howler. But when everything that is transitory is destroyed, the true face of Eternity is revealed as an Endless Peace and Quiet Beatitude. This aspect of KALI is called The Transcendental Night of All-Inclusive Eternity (MAHA RATRI). In this state, Her male counterpart is SHIVA, the Supreme Absolute Reality of Pure Consciousness. Manifestations Sustained by KALI's Energy In the material world, huge natural disasters, earthquakes, volcanoes eruptions, tornadoes, floods, situations of intense and tormenting crisis, mass destructions, riots, plague, unknown and incurable diseases, deadly epidemics, revolutions, wars, etc., are initiated and sustained by Her Terrible Energy. In the individual being, KALI is the tremendously transforming power of love and frantic (passionate) sexuality viewed as a bottomless impulse toward spiritual evolution. KALI is thus the Serpent Power (KUNDALINI) hidden in MULADHARA CHAKRA, the subtle center of power located between the anus and sexual organs. When this terrible Power awakens and is raised along the spine up to the crown of the head, it gives free access to the Cosmic hyperconsciousness. This awakening is by no means possible without the ecstatic divine Grace of Mother KALI. The Goddess of TANTRIC Love The center that radiates the most the Power of KALI in the human female is the YONI (the vagina) of a woman in intense sexual excitement. The YONI YANTRA (the diagram of the female power) is the well known inverted triangle, the immemorial sign of woman. All females in all the worlds are but parts of KALI, and this is especially true during the dark fortnight of the Moon (with a peak three days before full Moon) and at the time of menstruation, when the vibrations of KALI are increased in women. The YONI (vagina) is extolled as a sacred area, the transmission point of the subtle forces, the gateway to cosmic mysteries. There are sixteen distinct KALAS -- vaginal secretions (some of them unknown to medical science), physical manifestations of extremely subtle and powerful Cosmic Energies that are focused on this sacred area. These energies, when absorbed and polarized, during the TANTRIC sexual love, by the male force, can give terrible magical powers to the couple. Mother KALI is the guardian muse of the TANTRIC love (successive orgasms without ejaculation), and the Giver of Power to the couple who consecrate the Love Ritual (MAITHUNA) to Her. KALI is pure energy in its original form, the transcendental expression of womanhood. KALI is the awakened KUNDALINI energy, the transcendental power of sex, the lustful embodiment of the unrestrained, consuming, frantic love. With SHIVA as Her support, there is nothing in all the worlds that is outside Her domain. Though She is externally awesome, Her innermost nature is kind and compassionate. KALI is pleased when the passionate urge of lustful, detached desire for union with Her causes the vital power to awaken, enter and rise along SUSHUMNA NADI. Thus, She attracts with incredible power and destroys all that is impure and bad, perverse and wrong in our life. She fulfills all sincere and intense desires. She can bring in one day transformations that may take centuries to set up without Her help. KALI likes garlands of blood-red flowers, rhythmic music, sensual dance, pure red wine, spontaneous laughter, passionate and debauched love, orgiastic carnivals and "all-or-nothing" mental attitude. In the active role of physical love, KALI embodies the lustful mistress, the sacred prostitute, the sex initiatress. A woman becomes one with KALI by coming to terms with her awesome power of initiating (i.e., of starting, impelling, urging). As an Initiatress in the ultimate sexual mysteries of KALI, woman is the ultimate GURU of man. When hypocrisy, self-doubt, selfishness, jealousy, pride and envy are totally eliminated >from a woman's psyche, the deep intuitive wisdom of KALI emerges. Charged with sexual energy, KALI's wisdom acts as a potent initiation into the nature of Reality. KALI is fearless and passionate; She does not hold back Her favors. For a woman to truly embody KALI, she must get in touch with her own sexuality and dive deep into her unconsciousness. For a woman to become KALI she must take her man beyond mundane conventions, beyond any limitations, beyond the expected. In this aspect woman acts as the destroyer of illusion and as the fulfiller of desires. The MANTRA (subtle attuning sound) of KALI is the terrible sonorous frequency which, at the lowest level, manifests as sexual drive. For the ignorant individual, this is a deadly power. For the Initiate, this is the supreme power that opens the door to immortality. Through transmutation and sublimation of this energy, the human life is completely transformed and the terrestrial existence is plenary spiritualized. All the powerful and sudden euphoric feelings (such as the sexual orgasm without ejaculation), all the sincere and intense feelings of love and happiness, all pleasures (especially the erotic and refined sexual pleasures) are the beneficent manifestations of KALI. KALI is the Life Force KALI is the Cosmic Life Force (PRANA) of the Universe. Besides absorption (LAYA) into Her Subtle sound (MANTRA), a very efficient procedure of communion with Her is the breathing awareness i.e., continuously focusing the attention upon the breathing process without influencing it, like a non-intruding witness. Merging his attention continuously, even during daily activities, with the inhalation and exhalation (and especially with that which is beyond inhalation and exhalation), the practitioner will discover in a very short time the miracle of mindfulness and the power of introspection. In this way, he becomes ever more aware of the Life Force (PRANA) that sustains his life, starts to control it and can even expand his consciousness toward the Great Cosmic Force that is KALI. KALI YUGA, the Age of Destruction The successful worship of KALI is strongly recommended to all those who aspire to spiritual knowledge. Up to the YOGA division of The Ages of Civilization, we already are now in KALI YUGA, the Age of Dissolution, of the prevalence of anti-divine forces, when the spirituality of Mankind's origins has been almost wholly lost. We are now at the Threshold of the Cyclic Cosmic Dissolution (PRALAYA), which is brought by KALI -- The Power of Time. In such circumstances, the only valid spiritual path, in TANTRA vision, is the complete communion with KALI. In this way, the benevolent Goddess becomes our absolute and omnipotent protector and will help us to make successfully our way in this tormenting chaos that surrounds us and which every day becomes ever more alike the Cosmic Cemetery whose absolute Mistress is KALI. Therefore it is obvious that only through Her can we hope to survive the inevitable death and destruction. More than that, the Goddess will give to Her devoted admirer and constant worshipper (WORSHIP = an active outpuoring of spontaneous love and devotion effortlessly directed toward its object) the supreme gifts of Strength, Knowledge and Wisdom to fulfill the only valid Principle of Evolution in our Age: "TRANSFORM THE DEADLY POISON INTO HEAVENLY NECTAR" In other words, live fully in this hectic and ever more decaying world, refuse nothing, but be mindful and use intelligently for inner spiritual growth everything that life offers you. In this way, the very things that for ordinary people bring death and destruction, for the Initiate will bring inner peace, effortless self-control, perfect health, mental clarity, happiness, spiritual enlightenment. "O, KALI, so very happy Cosmic Mother, Archgrandiose Everlasting Female Archetype, Supreme and Terrifying Power of the Transforming Time & Night of All-Including Eternity, Precious Goddess of endless Love, COME, MANIFEST and STAY inside and outside! Grant me your endless grace, ‘cause I am your Child in Eternity" DinuRoman@aol.com (Dinu Roman). ************************************************************************** M. I. S.
