I have a problem with this; not a problem with the person who wrote it, but a problem with artists who are like this. When you do something that affects people in a positive way, especially in the arts, you should be grateful for their support. It doesn't seem fair to me that musicians can have the attitude of "Who the hell are you, I just make the music, it doesn't mean I like you just because you like my music..." At least they can be thankful, after all, if they don't sell albums, they don't pay the rent... It could be argued that we pay their bills. We pay them to do what they love to do, yeah, they could be nice. I'd be nice if people would pay me to do what I love... I'd feel obliged to. That doesn't mean I'd want to put up with the endless schmoozing of course, but being a jerk is totally uncalled for. Everyone has a "right" to be a jerk, but I'm not going to defend their right to that. There are already enough jerks in this world. When anyone does this kind of thing, it is called arrogance, and when famous people do it, it's kind of like stealing. I know Mark Kozelek is a troubled man, and that's part of what makes his music so great, but at least he could get past himself and his troubles for long enough to thank the people who pay his light bill... He doesn't have to be a saint, but a little courtesy would be nice... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Mar 1998 11:47:33 -0800 (PST) From: midglider Subject: Re: bad ppl/good music... was:good ppl bad music an vice versa Well said. Rock musicians should be held to the same standards as any other human being- especially if they're getting paid to whine about their misery. In this or any age, thats a real priviledge and luxury. > On Mon, 23 Mar 1998, James W Weber wrote: >> >> yeah someone tried to say to me once that because mark kozelek >> wasn't a benevolent, saintly man his music was worthless. heh. he can be >> an asshole, but he has that right. he doesn't know who the hell you are >> or why you are talking to him, so why should he give you the time of day? >> god knows i probably wouldn't heh. i think it best if ppl learn how to >> separate the music from the musicians. heck, the people from journey are >> sure nice and so, i'm certain, is celine dion. draw what conclusions you >> want from that. > > I have a problem with this; not a problem with the person who wrote it, > but a problem with artists who are like this. Anyway, it was a cool night. >> > > she doesnt look old i talked to her for 45 mins > she looks fine Hi everyone ... I'll take the second opinion! I saw them play an in-store back in the summer of '96 - when they were here for "SHAVING". And, I can't believe she could have aged dramatically in > 2 yrs. I'd never seen her in person before, alas; and, well, I was rather taken w/ her ... Not that it would matter, but I must say, I wish she wasn't married ... And that is ALMOST NEVER something you will hear from me as regards a married woman w/ anything remotely resembling frequency ... Having said all that, I'm actually really glad she's married, for, I assume, it's what she wanted. And, though I've never talked to her she seemed like such a lovely person! I'd only wish the best for her and her family! Frankly, I don't know why our friend would bother posting some rubbish like: 'Gee! Rachel's 27 yrs. old, she sure looks it ...' Two yrs. ago, at least, I would've said she looks young for her age - I was surprised to recently find out that she was born in '71. OK, sorry for kind of prattling on about Mrs.! Goswell [had to correct the *Ms.* I first typed, just then!] But, erm, well, as you can see I just really thought she was tres magnifique: such style, in a very understated way ... I'll never forget her smiling out at [could it possibly have been?] me in the crowd at the 9.30 club that night - cause I believe she recognised me from the in-store at GO! (Arlington, VA). Yeah, I know I may be deluded, and she might've been just smiling out to anyone; but she did _seem_ to recognise me up there ... Well, I'm sure I lost everyone ages ago .. but I'm glad I got that out ... I'd never told _anyone_ all that before ... And now, I've really done a 180 - sharing my thoughts on our favourite singer/bassist/guitarist/guest music editor/married woman - w/ all you lot ... best to all, --Michael ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 02:32:36 EST From: Catchbreez Subject: Re: two opinions are usually better than one ... yeah she has this pasty angel skin very beautiful women she was dress very cute kinda liz fraizer meets a raver rachel did look tired they all did they had just gone shopping according to ian at some thrift stores yeah rachel smiled at me a few times becuase i was smiling cuz i was under21 and didnt think i wouldget in (im 20) and they were going help me and my friends get in but they didnt have too i hung with them inside while they loaded up and saw the sound check and got in free at sxsw anyhoo enough bragging i though she was beautiful she has such a soothing voice that she could be 6'8" and 400lbs and i would still like her when you drool over a musician it takes away from them steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 11:38:18 +0000 From: davebp@postmaster.co.uk Subject: Re: mojave "review"! hee hee! hi, yeah. im not a nutzo-obsessive type fan or anything, but i was at the water rats gig last week and i didnt think rachel looked old at all. she looked tired (as in she probably wanted a nap) but not old or anything like that. i was actually pretty surprised when i found out that she was almost as ancient as me. and she still looks so young. my better half had her picked for about 23. which i agreed with until i found out she was a tad older. (don't you all know how rude it is to apply figures to a lady's age???) but yeah. i thought she looked pretty sweet. funny how the years can be so kind to some and so cruel to others... yeah. and it was a good show too! i wish i had have had (looks wrong- but sounds ok when you say it to youself) the opportunity to hear the new mojave3 stuff before the gig. then maybe i would have appreciated it more. but thems the breaks. my better half loved it all from go to whoah. me, i was more reserved. 'twas a pity about the sound quality in the venue, but they still succeeded in creating a pretty cool vibe. i'd give it a seven. dave ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 03:46:26 PST From: "michaelnicki barrett" Subject: Re: cd's sale Hi dave the ball is in your court you make the first bid there is also another guy interested but seening you where the frist in you go first.
