Fair enough, there are some good bands, but I can asure you, it is the worst it has been for ages. Check out the lastest releases every week.....I can guarantee the majority of these will be releases comprising of: 4 or 5 blokes wearing duffle coats/cagoules Retro sound 99pence coloured vinyl (big wow) 2*CD release Unimaginative sound/effects/song/cover art/live sound I understand that some people like this kind of music and the supply/demand factor that is involved. However, I feel that there are far more interesting bands coming from the `underground` US scene. Don`t get me wrong....I do buy British, but its getting harder to find decent bands.... Give me current lofi avarnt-garde US/Spanish/Australian bands or even modern composers any day. In fact I would rather listen to the music people produce on this list with their 4-tracks than the majority of the CDs that are released here in the UK each week. We do have good second hand record shops and CD fairs though. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 12:47:43 EDT From: ALTONBARNS Subject: Slowdive - Blind Mr Jones Hi Check out the updated Blind Mr Jones page for an interview with Richard Moore + their official connection with Slowdive! http://130.244.196.38/~w-44385/blind_mr_jones/interwiev.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Apr 1998 11:55:37 -0500 From: "jvan@bcm.tmc.edu" Subject: State of Grace Does anyone have a State of Grace discog? I know they have a load of EPs out, of which some are compiled onto a CD called Pacific Motion. Is this still available? As for sound comparisons, they are sort of One Dove meets the Cocteau Twins, soundwise. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 12:16:20 +0000 From: "wade@tapehouse.com" Subject: cd recommendation After listening to Pale Saints slow buildings, and knowing State of Grace's sound, people on the list might want to definetly check out the Catchers album mute. It's just an opinion though. But really good stuff.. wade (the buddha's lips are cold-----windy and carl) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 10:53:43 -0700 (PDT) From: Petrina Katsikas Subject: Re: Slowdive - Blind Mr Jones Thanks for the BMJ interview info! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 May 98 17:57:20 UT From: "Lisa Johnson" Subject: re: searching the archives Re: implementing a free-text search for the archives Hold on Erik! The Avalyn archives can be searched efficiently simply by using your preferred search engine! I've been quite successful using Alta Vista, but I'm sure many will get the job done... Here's how: Simply enter the desired keyword along with "avalyn", and you're done! Eg: "Jamboreebop Avalyn" (without quotes) If you know the keyword in question occurs frequently within the digests, adjust the date/month/year parameter in the search dialog box (under "Advanced Search" w/Alta Vista) to constrain the search for only the dates you suspect the desired info was discussed... That's it! Hope I'm not boring everyone, but a few people on this list asked for the info, so... Best Wishes!
