Any way here they were again and this time they had this really fine looking blond female drummer in this skimpy bikini thing and some othere girl that really had nothing to do with the band up on the stage too... Oh sure they were nice to look at and all with utters flapping in the wind and booty shaking this way and jiggling that way... ummm... did I mention how much they sucked.... anyway my friends and I ignored them and drank a few more beers... well thats my related story... There is extensive scientific and sociologocal evidence that suggessts the female of the human species very much appreciates being appreciated for her beauty...mind you, women's liberation authorities and like-minded lesbian women's groups would have you believe differently...just a thought.... Sincerely, Sillabyss... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1998 16:28:55 -0500 (EST) From: bLenDER Subject: the whole beautiful rachel thing okay, here's the deal I'm in a band and I've been in bands. I've had females (and males) attracted to me because "I'm an attractive guy in a band." I've had people come up to me and compliment me on my music, which I graciously accept. Some people have even comment on me looking nice, and while it can be a little uncomfortable for me, I do my best to politely accept their compliments. But if anyone said, "I don't like your music, I just came because I think you're hot," I'd be really fucking pissed, and either say fuck off and walk away, or go off on some art/creativity rant. I like to look nice. People like to look good. There's nothing wrong with that. But I do it for myself, because I like it, I don't model myself to attract an audience or to sell more product, I do it because it makes me feel good to look nice, or at least what I consider nice. I've been in bands where we wear matching outfits, or suits, or for one show, all black with toasters strapped to our heads. I guess it's really all just intent and how you use your abilty to be visually noticed and know. Sorry, I have lots of thoughts on this subject... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1998 17:48:27 EDT From: KingoGrief@aol.com Subject: Re: rachel similarities/owl (remix low) In a message dated 98-07-20 08:29:59 EDT, mark wrote: << Rachel made me like redheads - especially with that chin length hair cut - absolutely gorgeous...(slobber, slobber...)I apologise that I am indeed male and notice these sorts of things...(sorry to offend any if I have...) >> i've always had a weakness for girls with short red hair (me & charlie brown)...so much that i married one... you not only have my permission to slobber, but my blessing... jeff p.s. the opening track on the forthcoming (28 jul) low remix album (the porter ricks mix of "down") is quite reminiscent of *pygmalion*...give it a listen as soon as you're able... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1998 16:50:18 -0400 From: "Mark Stancombe" Subject: Re: rachel similarities > ben, your point is well-taken, and i don't disagree -- what i was > actually getting at earlier was how the sexes aren't *equally* scrutinized > for their looks, even in proportion to the numbers of their fans of > corresponding sexual preferences. that is, i don't think the numbers of > heterosexual males can completely account for how we treat women in the > entertainment industry. but i'm going to stop here b/c noone wants to > read a feminist tirade, especially from me! :) I completely disagree. In the entertainment industry men are "looked at" and "judged" by their looks just as much as women - only this society says that it is okay to stare at a half-naked man. Look at all of the male pronography - they are all aimed at 8-13 year old girls - almost all of these "men" or "boys" work within the entertainment industry...I just think that society picks on the fact that the male as well finds beauty in the opposite sex - why? Because they can....it has always been considered "dirty" for a man to stare at an attractive women, but for a woman the scenario is completely different....The fact that one of the singers in Slowdive is indeed female and attractive has nothing to do with their value as people and as muscians..I know plenty of physically beautiful women who are "unnattractive"... In the entertainment industry men are "looked at" > and "judged" by their looks just as much as women what? come on! physical attraction is [generally] so much more important to the public's determination of a female musician's "worth" than the opposite case. i thought that was obvious! part of it lies in the fact that we hesitate to call women "geniuses," rather they're at best "talented" and maybe we might honor them with some bullshit title like "diva." > The fact that one of the singers in > Slowdive is indeed female and attractive has nothing to do with their value > as people and as muscians.. that's what would ideally be the case, but i really don't think everyone subscribes to such a wonderful notion. > I know plenty of physically beautiful women who > are "unnattractive"... totally unrelated... i think ben's testimony really captures what i'm talking about (the one on being in a band and getting remarks on his attractiveness within that context). some comments just *don't* have a place. ; e. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1998 21:20:23 -0500 From: Byron Subject: Deja vu, motherfuckers Ugh - what *-=IDIOT=-* fell asleep and let his dick type a post to this list? Sure, one could argue that perceptions of physical beauty are just as subjective as musical tastes, and music debates occur all the time in this forum - but the idea is that we can go *BUY* music based on the exchange of opinions that we see here.
